Yuba City is the larger of the twin cities, with most of the shopping and services and a range of neighborhoods from older homes near downtown to new construction on the edges. Marysville, across the Feather River, is the historic Yuba County seat. Plumas Lake and Wheatland have grown with newer subdivisions popular with commuters and with families connected to Beale Air Force Base. Live Oak and Sutter are small farming communities with a quieter pace.
